Our Story

May is a former fashion and tech executive and a modern-architecture enthusiast. After acting as her own general contractor and building their home from the ground up, May decided to share her insights and proven methods to help others do the same. She co-founded MAOR (Modern Architecture Owner Representation), guiding clients through complex residential builds with the same passion and precision she applied to her own home. 

Peter is a corporate lawyer by training, specializing in finance and real estate. After helping May build their own home, Peter became a driving force behind MAOR, providing legal insights and structural integrity to every project. Together, they’ve been involved with over a dozen residential projects across the country, tackling everything from complex steel structures to historic renovations.

Together, we bring a combination of practical expertise and design-driven vision, offering a comprehensive approach to modern home building.

In 2018, we set out on a journey to build the modern home of our dreams. As two professionals, one in fashion and tech, the other in law, we didn't come from construction backgrounds. Yet, we successfully designed, financed, and self-managed a complex steel-and-concrete home valued at nearly double what we invested, all while saving nearly $1 million in contractor bids. We completed the project during one of the toughest times in recent history: during the pandemic, when material costs and labor shortages were at an all-time high.

Through our own experience, we realized that building a dream home doesn't need to be out of reach for people who aren’t in the construction industry or who don't have an endless budget. With the right knowledge and resources, anyone can become a confident self-GC or effectively manage their build, without compromising on design or quality.

That’s why we created Building Blueprint: to empower homeowners, developers and investors with the tools and knowledge to take control of their projects, and save time, stress, and money along the way.

Why Did We Create Building Blueprint?
